independent.ie– She is more often seen in her racing colours, but Rachael Blackmore has donned high fashion in support of Irish designers and craftspeople.
The Grand National champion jockey was wearing a Helen Cody dress as she launched the second annual #MadeLocal campaign, alongside Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) chair Andrew Bradley.
In April, Blackmore, from Tipperary, became the first woman to win the British Grand National. Now she is using her platform to promote some of our most talented craftspeople, with more than 1,000 involved in the campaign.
“It’s incredible to see so many talented Irish makers who have spent decades honing their crafts, creating everything from timeless pieces and heirlooms to treasured gifts and home comforts,” she said.
“Supporting local makers has never been more critical, with so many struggling to persevere in their craft.
“I’ve discovered some amazing Irish designers through the Made Local initiative and will continue to buy from Irish designers whenever I can.”
