Well, this is strange.

Dr Jen Gunter (whose name you may recognise as a gynaecologist and expert on all things vagina) was shopping in Target the other day when she noticed a set of women’s pyjamas.

These pyjamas were Star Wars themed, and featured the Death Star and little Darth Vaders on the legs.

Then Dr Gunter looked closer, and noticed that surrounding the Death Star and Darth Vader were… cute little hearts.

To be clear, the Death Star is the Galactic Empire’s ultimate weapon, capable of destroying a planet with one shot of its superlaser. It’s basically a killing machine.

Darth Vader is a complex villain who did a lot of very naughty things.

Both are considered part of the Dark Side, and are thus the baddies. So it’s more than a little strange to see them surrounded with tiny pink hearts.

Jen’s post was shared by Let Clothes Be Clothes page, where the pyjamas were widely slammed by female Star Wars fans who really didn’t appreciate the films being portrayed as all cute and cuddly.

‘Oh yeah, because the Death Star sent rainbows and love hearts down to Alderaan,’ wrote on commenter.

‘I must’ve misheard Obi-Wan. Maybe he said “I felt a great love in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in happiness and were suddenly joyful. I feel something wonderful has happened.”‘

‘I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry,’ wrote another.

We’ve reached out to Target and Disney to find out why women’s Star Wars pyjamas require the addition of little hearts, and will update this post if we hear back.
