Who won last years London Marathon and are they taking part this year?

Its time for another London Marathon, with plenty of people taking part to do their bit for charity.

However, for some people this will be all about the race itself rather than the joy of being involved and raising money.

These incredible athletes won their heats last year, in one the hottest marathon ever on record, with temperatures peaking at 24.1C.

It might not be as bright for them this year, but the lack of blazing sun could give them even more chance to retain their titles. Lets take a look at the 2018 London Marathon winners.

Eliud Kipchoge

34-year-old Eliud Kipchoge won the marathon for a third time, in the elite mens race.

He managed to pip Britains Mo Farah to the post by two minutes and five seconds, but Mo still managed to set a British record for his time.

The pair will be battling it out again, with Mo saying it would be an amazing achievement to topple Kipchoge.

Vivian Cheruiyot

Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya won the womens elite race in two hours, 18 minutes and 31 seconds.

The incredible 35-year-old athlete recently beat her personal best in the Lisbon half marathon, so could be in great stead to do the same again in London.

Madison de Rozario

Australian Paralympic athlete Madison de Rozario won the womens elite wheelchair race last year.

The 25-year-old will be back in the race today looking for her next go at the title, although she made history on her first, becoming the first Australian woman to win it..

All this was just a week after a double triumph at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, so shes certainly one to watch.
