OBrien admitted assaulting Mr Gonzalez by beating but denied a second charge of assaulting Mr Naeem by beating and using threatening words to cause alarm or distress.

The building site project manager told the court: The gentleman was taking the mick out of me over the tannoy is that allowed?

I went back to speak to him, yes. I tapped him with a newspaper. I did it in a jokey way.

Mr OBrien pushed Mr Naeem in the chest. We find as fact, Mr OBrien used threatening and abusive words to both London Underground workers.

He used aggressive and homophobic language towards Mr Gonzalez. That is our decision in the matter.

OBrien, of Wormley, Hertfordshire, admitted assault by beating and was convicted of further charges of assault and using threatening words to cause alarm or distress in respect of Mr Naeem.

He was bailed ahead of sentencing on December 18.
