A candlelit vigil will be taking place on Sunday for missing student Thomas Jones after a body was found in the River Severn.

The 18-year-old, from Bromsgrove, went missing on September 19 after a night out during his Freshers week at the University of Worcester.

Following a desperate search, West Mercia Police said a body had been recovered from the River Severn and Mr Jones next of kin were informed.

Thomas Jones. A search of the River Severn has been carried out for a missing teenager who only arrived in the city to start university last weekend. See NTI story NTIMISSING. Police say it is totally out of character for Thomas Jones to go missing, and desperate family and friends have been posting on social media to ask people to help find the teenager. The 18-year-old was last seen close to the river at Worcester Racecourse at around 3am on Wednesday morning after leaving Worcester city centre. Mr Jones, who is white, 5ft 5ins, slim, with short mousy brown hair and grey and green coloured eyes, was wearing pale coloured jeans, a navy blue woollen zip-up Lacoste top and green shoes when he went missing. Appeals have been widely shared to help the teenager, who is from Bromsgrove and a former South Bromsgrove High School pupil.

The Very Rev Peter Atkinson, Dean of Worcester, also paid tribute to the young student.

He said: Discovering a body in the river yesterday, which I think we understand to be that of Tom, has just been a terrible end to a terrible week and I think the thoughts and prayers of everyone in Worcester will be with Toms family and friends at this time.

I think its been a week in which the community has come together in an extraordinary way.

I hope thats been of some support and encouragement to his family, although nothing of course can take away the sadness and the grief that they must be feeling at this moment.
