Woman, 84, died two days after conman beat her up for her handbag

An 84-year-old woman has died in hospital after a conman showed up at her house and beat her up for her handbag.

Police are hunting for Johnny Brazil, 26, from Epsom, Surrey, in connection with the robbery that left Joyce Burgess with injuries to her head, neck and cuts to her arms.

A post-mortem revealed that Ms Burgess died two days later on 10 July of natural causes.

Ms Burgess had left her door open during the heatwave when Brazil entered and asked for a glass of water before attacking her.

Brazil is wanted in relation to the violent robbery of Ms Burgesss Woking home and a string of other burglaries.

On 18 July, Brazil was arrested in connection with the offences but was released under investigation.

They have since lost track of him.

Superintendent Graham Barnett of the Surrey Police said: We have been carrying out a large number of enquiries in the last week and now need to find Johnny Brazil. We have been trying to contact him without any luck and now need the publics help to find him.

He is wanted in connection with the robbery of Joyce Burgess, three other burglaries in Woking and a separate robbery in the Epsom area.

If you do see him please let us know immediately, rather than attempt to approach him yourself. Any information on his whereabouts could be extremely valuable.

Ms Burgess son Ian paid tribute to her in heartwarming statement: My mother was a very kind and friendly woman.

She was a sweet lady who would do anything for anybody.

She loved her travelling and has been the most part of the world and has done some amazing things.

It was only a few years ago that she went around to Monte Carlo race track in a Ferrari.

She went to Switzerland too and went up to the top of the highest mountain, despite being told not to by a doctor because of the thin air.

He added: She was game for anything… thats how I will remember her.

She died due to coronary and valvular heart disease, bronchial pneumonia and emphysema.
