Suspect in murder of girl, 13, is bailed and banned from entering Southampton

A man suspected of murdering 13-year-old Lucy McHugh has been bailed and told he cannot enter the city of Southampton.

The man, 24, was arrested on arrested on suspicion of murder and sexual activity with a child.

Lucys body was found in woodland near Southampton Sports Centre at 7.45am on July 26.

Detectives appealed for help from the public to piece together what happened after she left her home in Mansel Road East, Southampton, on Wednesday.

Appealing for information about Lucys death, a spokesman for Hampshire police said the teenager could have been stabbed with scissors as they searched for the weapon used.

Speaking during the investigation, Hampshire police Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said: This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to Lucys family and friends at this terrible time.

This investigation very much continues and we really need the help of the community to understand Lucys activity in the 24 hours before her body was found.

We know that this is causing a great deal of concern locally, please be assured we are doing all we possibly can to bring whoever is responsible for Lucys death to justice.
