A father-of-10 who abandoned his wife, girlfriend and three children in a crash has died after collapsing during a prison Koran class.
Umbar Ali, 41, who was in two relationships, was found guilty of dangerous driving and sent to HMP Humber after leaving his family in the wreckage.
He was jailed in January 2015 to four years and nine months, a sentence that his family said caused a great deal of anguish.
Shortly after being sentenced, Mr Ali was scalded with boiling water and sugar, and he was attacked by four inmates who hit him round the head with a snooker ball.
His mother believes that this incident may have contributed to his death months later.
Parkinson's drugs could turn people into gamblers and sex addicts
An inquest heard that Mr Ali, who was addicted to heroin and crack cocaine, refused to see his family in prison and the last time they saw him was when they turned off his life support machine after a suspected brain haemorrhage or a stroke.

His sister paid tribute saying he was a womans man with lots of friends.
She said: He enjoyed life to the fullest with a love for animals, boxing, wrestling and watching documentaries. He was very good at DIY and did lots of work fixing things around the house.
Umbar was always willing to help those less fortunate than himself. He made regular donations to an orphanage in Pakistan. He was on a spiritual journey [in prison] and wanted to sort his life out.
He wanted to make his family feel proud of him.
Miss Ali believes her brother was affected hardest when officials at HMP Humber refused him day release to go to his sisters funeral after she died from breast cancer, aged 47.
Miss Ali said: Umbar took this badly but he kept his heart close to his chest. She was seen as a motherly figure to him.
On December 11, 2015, Mr Ali collapsed during morning prayers and started to convulse on the floor.
He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where his family was eventually informed that something was wrong.
He died the next day after his family had said their goodbyes.
An inquest is taking place at Hull Coroners Court this week.
