The 29-year-old broke into the store in St Georges in Preston, Lancashire on September 10 last year and stole £1,465 cash from the safe.

Around a month later, while on bail for the offence, he bumped into his ex on a night out. She is a supervisor for the shop and had a safe key on her.

Naylor stole the key fob from her coat pocket and used it to gain access to the shop to steal a further £2,990.

Police were called to reports of an intoxicated man in the back of an ambulance later that same night, on October 17 last year.

Naylor, from Preston, then bizarrely confessed to police, telling an officer: I did it again.

Officers had thought he was referring to his previous crime and they told him it had been dealt with.

Naylor corrected them, drunkenly saying: No I did it again last night, didnt I?

His defence lawyer said he had been using alcohol and cocaine at the time.

Naylor pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for six months by Recorder Julian Shaw at Preston Crown Court yesterday.
