Not going to lie, when I first heard chocolate hummus was a new thing, I couldn't decide whether it was genius or downright weird. Now that I've made it, the verdict is in: chocolate hummus is smooth, chocolaty, and absolutely brilliant. I mean, this dessert spread satisfied my chocolate craving, and it's packed with protein (it's made with chickpeas). What's not to love?

It doesn’t hurt that chocolate hummus looks gorgeous when served in a bowl with a drizzle of pure maple syrup, and dusted with cocoa powder and flaky salt. The tahini found in standard hummus plays a part in this dessert variation, too. Except in chocolate hummus, it’s reminiscent of halva (a sweet and fudge-like sesame-based confection that's a staple in Middle Eastern markets).

Here's something else: Chocolate hummus is easy to make (and enjoy) at home. Have chocolate hummus as a snack or dessert with sliced apple, strawberries, pretzels, and even pita chips. Our chocolate hummus recipe, below, is so unbelievably good; don’t say we didn’t warn you.

If you're digging the edible cookie dough trend or just like licking brownie batter from the bowl, you’ll love this. It's a better-for-you dessert that's so simple to whip up. Chocolate hummus, we’ll be friends forever.
