Spread your options: 10 of the best Nutella alternatives
Spreadable selection

Whether you spread it on toast, eat it out of the jar, or just curse the gods when it falls out of the cupboard and smashes on the floor, Nutella is delicious.

The winning combination of hazelnuts and chocolate in spreadable form outsells Marmite in the UK and, in news that will surely make the historians of the future judge us harshly, actually caused riots in France recently.

Ferrero, the company that produces Nutella, and its sister product Ferrero Rocher, consume 25% of the world’s hazelnut supply in producing the two products, and while it seems ridiculous that one out of every four hazelnuts currently in existence are owned by the Italian company, it doesn’t stop Nutella being fantastic on pancakes.

But what if you fancy mixing it up one week or, God forbid, Nutella has sold out at your local supermarket?

Here are ten alternatives to the chocolate spread that’ll avert such a crisis.

Alas, this is nut-free. But it is made with Cadbury’s chocolate which, if you’re like me, will send you into waves of nostalgia for the 90s when a Dairy Milk cost 40p, and Cadbury’s was pretty much the only chocolate company you’d ever heard of.

If you’re going to replace the hazelnuts with anything, it might as well be something as delicious as Maltesers.

If you wake up one Sunday morning with nothing to do and Nutella on the mind, why not try making your own chocolate spread?

There’s plenty of recipes online and it’s surprisingly simple.

You can even mix and match flavour combinations if you want something different from the classic chocolate and hazelnut combo.
