If a month isn’t attached to some kind of holiday, campaign, or food, is it a real month?
October is Halloween. November is Bonfire Night. December is Christmas. January is, obviously, Dry January and Veganuary.
We thought everyone was content with February being the month of Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day, but, alas, we were wrong.
Dairy farmers have come together to declare that from now on February is Februdairy.
What is Februdairy, other than quite a weak play on words?
Essentially it’s a retalliation to Veganuary and the growing trend towards milk alternatives such as almond milk and coconut cream, combating reports of cruel practices in the industry by encouraging everyone to take to social media and share all the wonderful things about dairy.
‘The idea of #Februdairy is to inundate Twitter with positive and informative content,’ says Farmers Guardian.
Anyone who fancies taking part is encouraged to post positive pictures or quotes about dairy and dairy farming – ‘whether it be pictures of eating a yoghurt or milking the cows’ – throughout the month of February.
That’s all to take down the negative perception of cow’s milk and dairy farmers and get British people drinking milk again.
The fact that Februdairy comes immediately after Veganuary does make it seem like the initiative is in direct response to all the vegans drawing light to cruel practices within the industry. So, naturally, the vegan community has joined in to celebrate Februdairy in all its glory.
In response to #Veganuary, the dairy industry is launching #Februdairy in an attempt to save their dying industry. Each day of Feb, I’m going to be tweeting realities that the industry would rather remain hidden.

Let’s celebrate #Februdairy by choosing dairy-free alternatives & affording animals who would otherwise be killed in the industry the basic right to life. After all, LIFE is something we all deserve and seek.

#februdairy supporters I’ve a fun game for you! What are you most looking forward to celebrating???

#Februdairy reeks of desperation. I've ditched dairy for #veganuary, never felt better and not contributed to the needless torture of animals. Compared to multi billion pound business, what do I have to gain from lying. #vegan

Hmm, we’re not sure if that’s the response dairy farmers were hoping for.
But hey, at least the #Februdairy account is going strong, with more than 1,400 followers reading their very convincing pro-milk posts.
Will Februdairy get us all smothering things in butter and chugging milk? Maybe.
Will February 2018 hereafter be known as the great online war between vegans and dairy farmers?
Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but dear lord, we hope so. We love drama. *Sips (almond) milky tea*.
