An emaciated dog was found dead in a suitcase dumped in a cemetery this week.

Leo, a four-year-old bull terrier-type dog, was discovered under some shrubs at Harehills Cemetery in Leeds on Wednesday.

His body was taken to a vets, where it was discovered he was microchipped to an address in Wales – 200 miles away.

An RSPCA official said he was ‘in a shocking state’, and had every bone in his body on show.

His collar was left just hanging off him – and he weighed the same as the skeleton of a dog.

When officials tracked down the address linked to his microchip, the owners claimed he had been rehomed via the internet six months prior.

The RSPCA is now appealing for information regarding how the dog ended up dead in the case.

The four year old entire (un-neutered) bull terrier type called ‘Leo’ was found at 11.30am on Wednesday (24 January) under some shrubs at Harehills Cemetery on Kimberley Road.

RSPCA inspector Sarah Mason said: ‘Leo’s emaciated body had been crammed into a black suitcase, wrapped in a towel.

‘He was in a shocking state with almost every bone in his body visible. The collar he had around his neck was just hanging off him.

‘When vets weighed him he was just 11.6kg, literally a skeleton of a dog.

‘There’s no doubt that this poor boy suffered an enormous amount before he died.’

Leo was microchipped to an address in Newport, Gwent, and he was wearing a red leather Wainwright’s collar with white stitching.

The towel he was wrapped on was a light grey Hugo Boss one and the case was all black apart from a silver logo in the shape of an infinity sign.
