The adventures of a man and his dead dog are so hilarious you might want to consider stuffing your pet.

Mitch Byers’s Jack Russell may have died four years ago, but she’s probably made more new friends than you did this year.

As soon as Mitch, from Portland, Oregon, posted a picture of Phoebe online he found an eager audience waiting for their next escapade.

The 26-year-old likes to take the taxidermied dog along for road trips, but he has to put a sign in the window to stop people worrying.

It reads: ‘Don’t worry, the dog is already dead. She’s taxidermied. Please don’t break my window.’

Mitch and Phoebe now have over 1,700 followers on their Instagram, which is suitably named ‘My dead dog and me’.

The photos have had a mixed reaction with some calling it ‘wrong’ and others branding it ‘awesome’.

Mitch’s mum had Phoebe sent to a taxidermist in Colorado after their family pet died in 2013.

She kept the whole thing a secret, but after four years Phoebe is still a big part of the family.

In some of photos, Mitch dresses Phoebe up for Halloween and shows her ‘helping’ with Thanksgiving dinner.

He even posted a video of the Jack Russell sitting on top of a toy train set going past the Christmas tree, complete with Santa hat and jacket.

They like nothing better than a catch-up over a pint in the pub, and regularly snap a selfie together when they do.

Mitch described the moment he came home to find a stuffed Phoebe sitting on the table looking right at him.

He said: ‘I instantly cracked up, as I knew this is exactly the sort of thing my mum would do.

‘My sister however, took one look at her and started to ball her eyes out, which I guess is a better reaction than laughing.’

Mitch said the funniest moment he’s had with Phoebe was when he took her to a truck stop on the Oregon Coast.

When he asked if he could bring her in, the bartender looked confused, but conceded after hearing stories about her.

He added: ‘Before I knew it I met lots of pretty cool people and swapped stories about all sorts of items.

‘Everyone absolutely loved her. I think I even convinced a few people to taxidermy their own dogs when the time comes.’
