An inquest into the death of University of Hull student Libby Squire has heard that her body was identified by her fingerprints.

Coroner Professor Paul Marks was read a statement by an identification expert upon the opening of the hearing, which was adjourned shortly after.

The statement confirmed that the body of the 21-year-old – who was found dead in the Humber Estuary more than a month after she went missing – was identified by fingerprints.

Detective Superintendent Martin Smalley also spoke briefly at Hull Coroner's Court, telling Professor Marks that the body could not yet be released as forensic investigations are ongoing.

Police have confirmed they are treating the death of Ms Squire as a "potential homicide".

During the investigation into the disappearance, a man from Hull was arrested on suspicion of abduction.

Pawel Relowicz, 24, of Raglan Street remains under investigation.
