Many UK commuters will be sad to know that, today, rail fares went up by an average of 3.1 per cent.

There were protests across the country at the move, which Jeremy Corbyn condemned.

On that note, many will be looking to cut their rail costs, which makes it perfect timing that the so-called millennial railcard for 26-to-30-year-olds is launching today.

The railcard will cost £30 each per year and save passengers up to 34% off fares.

There will, however, be no discount on season tickets, and for all journeys made between 4.30am and 10am Monday to Friday a minimum fare of £12 is payable.

Funnily enough given the name, youll need to be aged between 26 and 30 to be eligible, and you get them on the website from 12 today. Heres how.

When the 26-30 Railcard is available to buy you will be assigned a random place in a queue (alongside everyone else who arrives before it goes on sale).

There is currently a handy clock counting down until sale time to entertain eager beavers too excited to wait.

The card is aimed at leisure travellers rather than commuters, as it offers 34% off a number of fares, but no discounts on season tickets and a £12 minimum fare on all journeys between 4.30am and 10am, excluding weekends and public holidays.

It must be bought online and downloaded onto a smartphone.

Industry bodies predict that cardholders will save an average of £125 a year, and Jacqueline Starr, from the Rail Delivery Group, said:

More young people can explore Britain for less using our trains and benefit from saving a third on rail travel, making it cheaper to get out and enjoy the seaside or visit family and friends.
