Violent crime is being spread from the cities into peaceful suburbs, new information from the Home Office has revealed.

Surprisingly it is west Yorkshire that tops the blacklist of the most dangerous places to live in England and Wales with 101.7 victim-based crimes for every 1,000 people.

London only just made it into the top 10 places, despite a series of stabbings that have blighted the capital in 2018 and the police force being cut to its lowest number of officers since 2001.

Police cars are parked at the site of a car crash in which five people, including three children, were killed after a stolen car crashed into a tree on Stonegate Road, in Leeds, northern England on November 26, 2017. A 12-year-old, two 15-year-olds, a 24-year-old and a 28-year-old died after the collision on Saturday night, said West Yorkshire Police. Assistant Chief Constable Russ Foster of West Yorkshire Police, said budget cuts had put officers on the back foot and had left them unable to deal with violent crime.

He told The Sun: In West Yorkshire we promote a culture of ethical crime recording and have made significant improvements to enhance the integrity of our crime statistics which has influenced an increase in recorded crime.

We as a force have experienced real rises in some areas of crime affecting our communities such as violence, burglary and robbery, similar to other forces nationally. Conversely we have seen a reduction in other areas of crime including vehicle crime and theft from the person.
