Christmas is a wonderful time of year – whether you celebrate it or not.
Besides the fact its a day off for most people, everyone just seems cheerier and everything just looks nicer.
Maybe its all that mulled wine on offer, who knows, but you cant escape the fact that all those Christmas lights do make everything seem so magical.
So even if you dont celebrate Christmas, take advantage of the festivities because theres plenty to do.
Volunteer
Spend the day doing something positive by volunteering at a food shelter or helping out at a charity.
Homeless charity Crisis has 11 centres across the capital and is always looking for volunteers to help make Christmas Day special for the homeless.
All you have to do is visit the website and sign up for a minimum of two shifts over the Christmas period (between December 22 and 29).

If you dont want to do that, check your local homeless shelters and smaller charities as they always need help too.
Go for a hike
Grab some friends, rent a cabin and spend the weekend at a national park. That way you wont have Christmas trees, glitzy lights and Christmas adverts in your face and you can have some much needed R&R.
Order Chinese takeaway
Most people will be having Christmas dinner so the takeaway shops will be pretty empty.
Take advantage and order a Chinese while you enjoy your movie marathon.
Bake, bake, bake
Its therapeutic and relaxing plus theres nothing quite like a freshly baked cookie or cupcake on a Sunday.
Use it as a catch-up day for all the things youve been putting off – or – things youve been wanting to do for a while.
Spend time with family and friends
Just because you dont celebrate Christmas, doesnt mean you cant spend the day with family or friends.
Spend the day playing games, watching movies, cooking or doing nothing – together.
Pretend to be a tourist
Tourist attractions tend to stay open on Christmas day, especially in London.

Find out whats local to your area and chances are theyll have special Christmas hours.
You can also take advantage of the small crowds by checking out a monument or historical landmark for free.
In London, theres no congestion charge between Christmas Day and New Years Day so you can explore the city by car.
Its also likely to be a lot quieter in the city so it could be the ideal time to wander round one of Londons parks.
Take a cruise down the River Thames
City Cruises offer a boat trip down the river Thames departing from Westminster Pier at 12pm, sailing past historic Greenwich, the towers of Docklands to the Thames flood barrier.
During your journey, you get a three-course lunch while taking in the sights.
