Man shot by police during pre-planned raid in London

A man was shot by police during a pre-planned raid in London this morning, the Met Police has said.

Officers from the anti-robbery Flying Squad swooped the home in Wimbledon shortly after 8am on Monday, supported by armed colleagues.

The man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

A second man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

A number of roads around the scene in Lacock Close, including Haydons Road, have been closed as an investigation is carried out.

Both the Mets internal Directorate of Professional Standards and watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said: A man has been shot during a pre-planned police operation in Wimbledon.

The incident happened at about 8.10am on Monday, 3 December in Lacock Close.

A proactive operation was conducted by officers from the Mets Flying Squad assisted by firearms officers.

During the course of the operation, one man was shot by police.

A second maan has been arrested for conspiracy to rob.

The Mets Directorate of Professional Standard have been informed.

A number of roads in the area, including Haydons Road, have been closed and a forensic scene is in place.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an independent investigation.
