Were all wondering how you pronounce womxn after it emerged the term was being used at three universities.

Students at Goldsmiths, University of London and Kings College London have all substituted the term for woman as a way to be more inclusive.

The Student Union at Goldsmith has even gone as far as to use it exclusively on its website.

The Kings College London Womxn in Physics club has also taken it up.

Despite the word being used more widely no-one quite knows how to say it.

Weve approached Goldsmith student union and Kings College London but have not yet been given the correct pronunciation.

These people have no idea how to say it

How do you say "womxn", anyway?

If it's said the same way as the real word then that's completely pointless. If it isn't, god knows how you pronounce that combination of letters.

Is this an idea which has even been tested outside of text-based bubbles of performative bullshit?

How do you say the x in womxn? Is it a click like in Xhosa or? Cos if you do it like that and repeat it, it kinda sounds like beat boxing

According to the Urban Dictionary the term womxn is a spelling of “women” that is a more progressive term that not only sheds light on the prejudice, discrimination, and institutional barriers womxn have faced, but to also show that womxn are not the extension of men (as hinted by the classic Bible story of ) but their own free and separate entities. More intersectional than because it includes trans-women and women of colour.

But some black and trans women are not OK with the term and just preferred to be called women.

Its not the first time people have attempted to change the word woman after trying to use womyn in the past.

That one was more straightforward to pronounce though and didnt have us scratching our heads like womxn.
