Huge search after man disappears while swimming in the sea

A man has disappeared after going for an evening swim on a beach in Suffolk.

Lawrence Gibbs, 56 went out into the water at Pakefield Beach at 5pm wearing a swim cap and blue swim shorts.

He was seen drifting away from the coast near Lowestoft where he went into the sea,

Lawrence Gibbs, 56 went out into the water at Pakefield Beach near Lowestoft at 5pm and began drifting towards Kessingland, Suffolk. Lawrence from Redisham, Suffolk is described as white, of medium build and has grey hair. He was wearing blue swimming shorts and a swimming cap at the time. Suffolk Police and Her Magesty's Coastguard are searching for Lawrence supported by Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SULSAR)

Coastguards have now launched a major search to find Lawrence, from Redisham, who is described as white, of medium build and with grey hair.

Suffolk Police and Her Majestys Coastguard are searching for Lawrence supported by Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SULSAR)

A Suffolk Police spokesman, said: Her Majestys Coastguard is currently searching for Lawrence supported by Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SULSAR).

Anyone who has seen Lawrence or anybody with any information is asked to contact Suffolk police on 101.
