People are using speed cameras to measure how fast they can sprint in a bizarre new social media craze.

Men and women are sharing videos of themselves running as fast as they can past the cameras all over the country.

Theyre then battling each other as to who can hit the highest speeds.

The radar speed signs use LED tech to tell motorists how fast they are travelling, typically on residential roads.

But Jack Nixon, a student in Newcastle, put a video on Twitter on Sunday in which he is seen pegging it down a street.

He reaches 18mph in the clip, since shared more than 23,000 times.

In another tweet, he even invites Usain Bolt to a dual.

Unlike traditional speed cameras, radar cameras measure something moving quickly near them even without a vehicle.

Usian Bolt, 32, set the footspeed world record at 27.8mph in a 100m race in Berlin in 2009.
