These pictures highlight the shocking injuries a dad was left with from a single punch in a sickening unprovoked nightclub attack.
Ben Pennington, 30, was knocked unconscious and cracked his head on a bar top after being punched by a complete stranger.
He fell into a coma for several days, with his father admitting he didnt think his son would make it.
Surgeons at Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire had to remove the front of his skull to relieve pressure on Bens brain – a procedure that saved his life.
His dad Mark Pennington has now released the heartbreaking pictures showing him connected to monitors while unconcious in hospital.
He is seen wearing a neck brace and connected to a machine to help him breathe.
As he fought for his life, Bens family were told that if he did survive, he might have to stay in hospital for more than a year.

Thankfully, he woke up and just five weeks after his brush with death he was discharged from hospital and allowed to recover at home.
Tony Parsons, 29, was this week jailed for three years and eight months for the unprovoked attack in October 2016 at the Level One nightclub in Darwen, Lancashire.
Mark said: Were very pleased. We were pleasantly surprised.
The sentence could have been more but Ive been told its quite a chunky sentence for that crime.
I thought he was going to walk from it.
We have always known who [the attacker] was. This is what he does for fun.
Ben still receives regular care as a result of the attack, Mark said, adding: Hes getting on with his life.
Parsons, of Darwen, was found guilty of unlawful wounding following a trial at Preston Crown Court on Thursday.
After sentencing, Detective Constable Alison Tipping, from the polices public protection unit, said: As a result of this attack – which was completely unprovoked – a mans life has been changed forever.
He spent weeks on critical care and had to have surgery to his skull.
He is, fortunately, making a good recovery – better than was expected by medical staff, but he continues to have ongoing issues.

Throughout this time, Parsons has shown no remorse and has sought only to protect himself.
Our thoughts remain with the victim and his family and I hope todays sentence brings them some sense of justice after such a horrific attack.
