A man throttled a mum-of-two during sex then kept her dead body in his bedroom for nearly a week, a court has heard.

Richard Bailey, 41, is accused of murdering Charlotte Teeling, 33, after meeting her on a night out in Birmingham on February 23 this year.

He denies murder, claiming Miss Teeling died by accident after she asked him to perform a choke hold on her.

During Baileys trial at Birmingham Crown Court today, jurors were told the pair met in Birmingham city centre and caught a taxi back to his house, where they had sex before Miss Teeling was smothered or throttled.

Her near-naked body was found surrounded by pornographic material in Baileys bedroom several days after she was reported missing on February 26.

Opening the case, Jonas Hankin QC, prosecuting, said: It is believed the killing took place between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Pornographic material was strewn across the bedroom floor and scientific tests showed traces of semen in her vagina and anus.

Death was established as forceful compression on the neck […] The prosecutions case is that while having penetrative sex, consensual or otherwise Charlotte Teelings death was caused by strangling or smothering her.

Mr Hankin said that Mr Bailey has admitted to causing her death but is denying any actions that were unlawful.

He intended at the very least to cause her very serious harm, he said.
