A man has been jailed for spraying acid in the face of another teenager without warning.

Donell Wilkins, 18, was jailed for six years and now footage of the attack has been released by police.

He was found guilty at Kingston Crown Court of throwing a corrosive substance at another person with intent to burn, main, disfigure, disable or commit GBH.

The victim was attacked at 6.40pm on July 21 last year in Fife Road, Kingston.

Wilkins and a group of teenagers became involved in a dispute leading him to spray the acid at his victim. He then walked away while the victim, who was just 17, had to be treated for his injuries.

He suffered burns to his face and eyes but was discharged from hospital shortly after the attack.

Wilkins, who was known to police, was recognised from the CCTV footage and he was arrested soon after before being charged.

He denied the allegations but was found guilty at crown court.

The offence was committed in Fife Road, Kingston at around 18:40hrs on 21 July 2017. Wilkins was one of a group of teenagers who became involved in a dispute with two other males. Without warning, Wilkins sprayed the corrosive substance at one of the males, before walking away from the scene. The victim - a 17-year-old male - went to hospital, where he was treated for burns to his face and eye before being discharged. The exact type of corrosive substance was not identified. An investigation was launched by detectives in Kingston. Officers recognised Wilkins from CCTV footage of the incident, which led to his arrest. He was charged on 7 October and bailed to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 8 November 2017. The trial started at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, 18 June.
