Emergency services staged a simulated acid attack inside a nightclub to prepare for if it really happened.

Photos show how victims were doused with water by staff to wash off the corrosive substance.

It was held today at Heaven Nightclub in London, one of the capitals biggest gay venues.

During the simulation,a man in a balaclava sprayed a bottle of acid, injuring ten people.

Photos show how security staff respond first, pouring water onto the guests.

Firefighters and paramedics then take over, continuing to pour water over the victims.

London Ambulance Service tactical adviser Inspector Chris Reeves told Pink News: Thinking about how the acid attack started, there was a lot of noise, people started to scream – I was watching some of [the observers] faces and Im sure some people found it quite disturbing and quite shocking, which I think it probably was. It was quite realistic.

The medical teams started to pour water onto people, but those bottles quickly [ran out]. The emergency teams started to arrive – police, fire, ambulance.

It probably felt quite a long time – thats probably realistic. We average seven-and-a-half minutes response time for those high-priority calls, but thats quite a long time, so we really want that help [before that].

Photos shared on social media show the chaos during the simulation:

Attacks like this are rare, and police stressed there were no particular concerns of a homophobic attack leading to the choice of venue.

It comes after a high-profile acid attack in April last year, when Arthur Collins sprayed acid at a group of clubbers.

Sixteen people suffered chemical burn injuries and three people were temporarily blinded – one of whom still suffers from blurred vision in one eye.

He was jailed for 20 years after being found guilty of GBH.
