A council worker accidentally sent an expletive laden voicemail to a man who had phoned in to complain about roadworks.

He also wanted to report the temporary traffic lights were not working.

But he was probably not expecting to be left a rude message by a council worker after they called him back on June 13 and failed to reach him.

The man on the phone said: That will wind him up and that will f**king rile him.

He also joked with his colleague the Green Cross Code Man was the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars.

Kirklees Council denied the comments were aimed towards Mr Addison but he doesnt believe them.

He said: All I was complaining about was roadworks.

Instead of an apology I got that.

I just wanted to know why theyd done them both at the same time as it seems pretty inconsiderate to residents, but receiving that voicemail took my frustration to the next level.

Mr Addison, who is a physiotherapist, has demanded apology and a response to his query about the roadworks.

Karl Battersby, Strategic Director for Economy and Infrastructure at Kirklees Council, has now said sorry and revealed the council worker had been spoken to about his conduct.

He said: Whilst initial investigations suggest that the conversation was not directly about the caller, the conversation that took place was unprofessional and not in line with our expectations of staff.

The members of staff involved will be spoken to and appropriate action will be taken to ensure that this behaviour is not repeated.

We would like to offer Mr Addison a full apology for both our failure to deal with his enquiry in a timely manner and for any distress the recorded conversation may have caused.
