The long Bank Holiday weekend is set to bring sunshine for many – and a welcome break from the torrential rain and winds of the past days.
Temperatures will reach 21C (70F) by the end of the weekend, bringing much needed warmth but not quite a return to temperatures registered during a brief heatwave in April.
According to the Met Office, temperatures will be higher than the May average.
Sky weather forecaster Chris England said: "The maximum temperature is likely to be around 21C in London, so it will be pleasantly warm.
"There will be sunny spells, particularly in the later half of the long weekend, from Sunday afternoon to Monday.
"Parts of Scotland will have some rain.
"Before we get to the 20s, temperatures will be in the late teens on Saturday and early Sunday."
No weather warnings have been put in place for the weekend.
The Met Office forecast for Friday and Saturday says: "Much of England and Wales will be dry, bright and increasingly warm. Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northwest England and Wales will be breezier and cooler, with occasional rain."
Parts of the country suffered badly in wet weather on Monday, with areas of Kent getting around a month's worth of rain in 24 hours.
