Ever since Kate Middleton and Prince William revealed their third childs name as Prince Louis, speculation over how to pronounce his name has been rife.

Kate and Wills, who celebrated their seventh royal wedding anniversary on Sunday, revealed their second son and third childs full name as Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge on Friday.

It followed days of hype over what the Princes name was, with Kate giving birth on Monday and his name not revealed for another four days.

With Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the couple revealed their names just two days after welcoming them into the world.

Video footage of Kate and Williams wedding ceremony, on 29 April 2011, shows Kate saying Wills full name as the pair exchange vows.

So did she say Louis as in Lewis or Louis as in Loowee?

Speed through to the 4 minute 32 seconds mark to find out:

Loowee!

As Kate repeats Williams full name, she pronounces Louis as in Loowee. And as Prince Louis was named after his father, we therefore now know his name is also pronounced Loowee.

When the name is spelt Louis as opposed to Lewis, it is most common for the pronunciation to be Loowee.

Furthermore, other famous people with the name Louis have used the pronunciation Loowee, too.

King Louis, singer Louis Armstrong, comedian Louis C.K., The X Factor host Louis Walsh, fashion designer Louis Vuitton, One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson and TV personality Louis Theroux all use the Loowee pronunciation and share their name with the fifth in line to the throne.

Kensington Palace released a statement on Friday revealing the new Princes spelling is Louis: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles.

The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

What does the name Louis mean?

Louis can be written out in many different forms – Louis, Louie, Lewis, Luis or Lois.

It is a French name, with the French meaning being renowned warrior.

It didnt feature in the top 100 baby names of 2018 or 2017, although on the boys-only list, it sits in the 88th position this year. No doubt that is about to change.
