A controlled explosion was carried out at Manchester Airport tonight after a suspicious package was found during a security search.

Terminal Two was partially evacuated and passengers were held on planes while they waited to get the all-clear to disembark and enter the terminal.

The item was flagged up because a device had more wiring than expected but was deemed non-suspicious after examination, the MEN reports.

However, it turned out to be a false alarm and the airport is now operating normally.
