Shocked parents of primary school children received a message telling them ‘don’t forget your willies’ after staff did not check the auto-correct on their texts, this week.

Many of the parents quickly saw the funny side and shared the text on social media before embarrassed staff at Ladywood Primary School, Ilkeston, issued an apology.

The group text to the Derbyshire parents said: ‘Don’t forget your willies and waterproofs and to wrap up warm. We are outdoor learning this week.’

The gaffe quickly appeared on Facebook as parents swapped jokes and innuendos.

Maria Sheldon-Chambers said: ‘Don’t forget ya willies its cold out there xx.’

Leanne Freeman added: ‘This made my day recieving this message lol x.’

A follow up message was quickly sent, which said: ‘Oops, typing mistake. I obviously meant wellies! Happy New Year!’

Head teacher Melanie Lawson told the Derby Telegraph she was glad parents took the slip-up in good humour.

She said: ‘Unfortunately, the autotype corrected the word ‘wellies’ to ‘willies’ but we were able to change it quickly after a parent called us to let us know.

‘It seems to have caused a lot of giggling and amusement and, as our youngest pupils had a great day learning outdoors, it all ended well.’
