A transgender burglar launched an appeal to be moved into a women’s prison after she was sexually assaulted by guards.
Strawberry Hampton began the unusual legal battle after saying she has been abused in two men’s prisons, with staff there forcing her to perform a sex act on another inmate as they watched.

She also alleges she was starved, beaten, had her hair cut, bra shredded and that she was put in solitary confinement after complaining.
A federal court judge will hear Strawberry’s testimony Friday, with her attorney Alan Mills blasting the ‘barbaric’ treatment she has received.
He told CBS Chicago: ‘She eventually said I’m not going to do this anymore and reported them through the PREA, the Prison Rape Elimination Act, the people who were harassing her.
‘When the guards found out she had reported them, that’s when the abuse really escalated.’
Strawberry, who has known she was transgender since the age of five, was first abused at Pinckneyville Correctional Center.
The burglar, who is serving a ten year sentence was then moved to the Menard Correctional Center in Menard, Il, only for the mistreatment to continue.
The Department for Corrections did not respond to a request for a comment.
