Woman 'abducted newborn baby from British hospital'

A woman allegedly abducted a two-month-old baby boy at a hospital.

Alicia Steward, 23, is said to have snatched the baby out of his carrier and run off at Hull Royal Infirmary on Wednesday December 27, 2017.

A court heard she was chased by a prison officer and a member of public, before being arrested in the hospital car park.

Steward, of no fixed address, appeared at Hull Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with taking a child under 16 from the lawful control of another person.

Sally Robinson, prosecuting, said the mother had taken her son to hospital and was waiting with him in a doorway for a taxi she had booked.

Steward did not enter a plea at this stage.

She will appear at Hull Crown Court on January 26.
