A man has been charged with the murder of a woman who was stabbed to death while working at a supermarket.

The 44-year-old suspect is accused of killing Jodie Willsher, who was fatally attacked at Aldi in Skipton on Thursday afternoon.

The 30-year-old mother suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Airedale General Hospital for emergency treatment but medics were unable to save her.

Tributes have poured in following her death.

Her husband Malcolm Willsher said: "She was lovely and warm and always had a smile on her face.

"She was amazing, beautiful and a lovely person. She was a doting mother and a loving wife."

North Yorkshire Police have not named the man charged with Mrs Willsher's murder.

He is due to appear at York Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning.

Detectives have launched an appeal to trace a key witness who restrained the suspect.

He was the first person to intervene and was involved in a "sustained struggle" to restrain the alleged killer, police said.

The man, thought to be aged in his 60s, was wearing a flat cap and a lighter and darker two-tone walking-type jacket.

It is believed he was shopping with a lady with short, light brown hair who was wearing a light-coloured, possibly grey, jacket.

The pair appear to have left the store before the emergency services arrived.

Colin Breslin, regional managing director at Aldi, described Mrs Willsher as a "much loved and popular colleague", adding that her co-workers were "all deeply shocked and saddened by her death".

Matthew Barnes, chief executive of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "Everyone at Aldi is heartbroken by this devastating news. Our deepest sympathy goes to Jodie's family, friends and colleagues.

"We are doing everything we can to support our people and all those affected during this difficult time."

Skipton mayor Andy Rankine said: "The whole town is in shock and grieving over the loss of Jodie. Christmas this year will an ordeal for many residents."

Police say they are not treating the incident as terror-related or a hate crime.
