Today I answered in the City Council, I believe in a clear and transparent way, to the questions on the New Year, with reference to the investigations initiated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Since some journalist friends pointed out to me that I was harsh against the press, even though I actually spoke of “certain press”, I would like to clarify my thoughts better, also because the respect I show to the world of information is well known» . This was written by the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Genoa Pietro Piciocchi, on his Facebook page, after the last session of the municipal council.

“Well – continues Piciocchi – beyond the merits of the question, on which we are absolutely calm and wholly collaborative with the judicial authority, I consider it truly execrable that completely imaginative, arbitrary, unilateral narratives are published, which find no confirmation in formal acts.

We read of “stew contracts”, when there is only one assignment in favor of the only subject entitled to the production of the event, however below the legal threshold for direct assignment; alleged interrogations of executives are announced, whose names are shamelessly mentioned, who are not even known to have been summoned; he raves about favoritism and disturbances in the choice of a subject who – small detail – is the exclusive concessionaire of a national network; first we talk about complaints that would have triggered the investigation and then we say that there would have been no complaints and I could go on and on.

All in the most evident violation of the secrecy of the investigations and in defiance of the most elementary constitutional rights of serious and rigorous people, such as the executives in question, who see their names published in the newspapers and to whom all my sympathy goes (which is why the Civic Advocacy has received a mandate for the protection of the Organization and of the persons mentioned). I completely dissociate myself from this political use of a judicial investigation, from leaks of news only functional to drawing partisan conclusions, or to anticipate convictions, only to be blatantly denied, unfortunately endemic evils of our country and which simply horrify me.

And All This Why?

Evidently for the sole purpose of speciously attacking the City Council and of discrediting and tarnishing for political purposes an event that had enormous success, with 30,000 people in the square, over 3 million spectators on average, 100 hotel rooms occupied for 6 days, and which brought our city to national prominence. An event whose organization we proudly claim and which was managed in full transparency and with great professionalism. Obviously it bothers someone. The famous words of the President of the Republic Oscar Luigi Scalfaro come to mind: “I’m not into this game of massacre”».
