A father has warned his son could have died in a horrific cycling accident if he hadn’t been wearing his helmet.

Aaron Davis, 34, shared the shocking photographs of his 11-year-old son, Morgan, after he broke his nose, eye socket and both cheek bones after smashing into a brick wall.

Morgan was cycling home from school when he tried to move onto the pavement to avoid a car on the single-lane road he was on in Lincolnshire.

When he attempted to mount the pavement his front wheel hit the kerb and the back wheel hit a stone, sending him flying forward and smashing his face on the wall.

Thanks to the generosity of a complete stranger who drove him to hospital, the injured youngster was already being stitched up when his dad arrived.

Mr Davis was shocked at the extent of his son’s injuries.

Morgan will need reconstructive surgery to fix his nose and will have to be fed through a syringe for at least two weeks because of the seriousness of his injuries.

Now, Mr Davis wants to raise awareness of just how vital wearing a helmet is.

He said: ‘The doctor said if he wasn’t wearing a helmet then he would not be sat here now. The front of his helmet was protecting the top of his head.

‘We want people to be aware helmets are not just for show. My kids don’t have a choice – they don’t go on bikes without it.’
