The former marine engineering lecturer said for the past two years he has turned down the offer of a card as he already has so many.

He said: In the last year or two I have said I dont want a card from the Queen because Ive had so many, but every year Im always asked

The last one I received was about three years ago and it was a picture of Queen Elizabeth smiling, which I had never had before.

He has instead welcomed the delivery of a homemade lemon drizzle cake, his favourite, as a refreshing change.

Mr Weighton, of Alton, Hampshire, said: I was so happy when Dr.Oetker got in touch and said that they wanted to bake me a cake. Its always nice when someone thinks of you on your special day.

I always look forward to birthdays, they bring loved ones together, as they sit around the table, laughing and enjoying each others company while having a slice of cake.

Emma Haworth, from Dr. Oetker, said the baking company wanted to help Bob celebrate his birthday with the special cake.

She said: When we found out Bobs 111th birthday was coming up we had to reach out to him.

We believe theres nothing better than being surprised with a delicious homemade birthday cake.

Thats why Dr. Oetker is encouraging people to get that baking feeling and bake someones birthday cake to make someones birthday.

We hope Bob has a fantastic celebration with his friends and family, and that they all enjoy a lovely slice of cake.

Mr Weighton keeps active by reading and still makes the weekly walk to his local supermarket to get his shopping.

He was born on March 29 in 1908, when Edward VII was King and four years before the Titanic sank.
