A murder investigation was underway today after a woman was found dead on a busy road in west London.
Emergency services rushed to help the woman, who is thought to have been in her 20s, after she was found injured lying on the pavement.
Paramedics, including those from a scrambled air ambulance, battled to save the woman but she was declared dead at the scene.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene and was today last night being quizzed by detectives as they tried to establish what had happened.
The incident happened on a main road lined with shops and restaurants in the suburb of Ealing in west London.
Paramedics, air ambulance and police were called to the Uxbridge Road in Hanwell just after midday but were unable to save the woman, whose
family have been told and were being supported by specially trained officers.

The coroner has been notified but the death remained a police-led investigation. A post mortem investigation was due to be carried out by a pathologist to establish a medical cause of death.
A spokesman for Metropolitan Police said: An investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Ealing.
At this early stage, the death is being treated as unexplained.
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 12:11pm on Thursday, July 19 to reports of a seriously injured woman in Uxbridge Road, W7.
Officers, the London Ambulance Service and Londons Air Ambulance attended.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman, believed to be aged in her twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:50pm.
Her next-of-kin has been informed.
A post-mortem and formal identification will take place in due course.
At this stage this matter continues to be dealt with by detectives in Ealing. Enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
He has been taken to a north London police station where he remains in custody.
The Mets Homicide and Major Crime Command has been informed as is routine.
