Meghan Markle has potentially received the most bizarre royal gift to date – a bouquet of carrots.

On day four of Prince Harry and Meghan Markles Australian tour, the couple were on Bondi Beach greeting royal fans who had gathered to meet them.

Harry and Meghan broke the news that they are expecting their first baby on Monday so they have been inundated with baby gifts from Australian fans all week.

And as they chatted away and received more baby gifts on Bondi, Meghan was handed the bizarre bouquet of carrots.

Oh my goodness! she exclaimed, as she saw them coming her way, adding, Thank you so much!

She then turned to Harry, laughing as she told him: Hun, weve got some veggies!, to which her husband gaily replied: Fantastic!

Judging from the look on the face of the royal aide in the background didnt seem to understand the gift – and shes not the only one.

There is, of course, nothing wrong with carrots – theyre a staple veg and these bad boys were clearly homegrown for Meghan. But given shes on a royal tour and the carrots will be off by the time she heads back to the UK, why exactly was Meghan gifted a bouquet of carrots?

Lets look at the theories…

Someones having a good old ginger joke…

Prince Harry is a redhead and redheads are often called carrot top because non-gingers think its oh-so-funny. Gifting Meghan a bunch of carrots is just an extension to this very hilarious joke, right?

Meghans a keen cook…

The Duchess of Sussex is well known for her love of cooking, having Instagrammed endless pictures of her whipping something up in her kitchen or shopping in food markets – and she used to run lifestyle website The Tig, which included recipes. Maybe they think Meghan has time to cook a homemade treat for Harry during the tour.

Someone doesnt like banana bread…

On the first day of their tour, Meghan busied herself in the kitchen by making banana bread for afternoon tea the following day. Perhaps the carrot gifter prefers carrot cake and is dropping a subtle hint?

Meghans a style queen…

Thanks, again, to her Instagram account and The Tig, we know Meghan loves making a home, often posting snaps of gorgeous bouquets of flowers she filled her house with. Bouquets of carrots are often used to make striking centrepieces – especially at Easter – and they are a very trendy way of adding a wow factor to a dinner table. Perhaps the carrots were this royal fans way of giving a nod to Megs sense of style?

A home comfort…

Meghan has previously spoken of how her fridge is never without carrots or hummus, because I love them and so does my dog, Bogart. Maybe this royal fan knew this and wanted to help Meghan feel at home Down Under.

A pregnancy gift…

Carrots are known as a superfood for pregnant women, providing beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A and is essential for the healthy development of a babys eyes, skin, bones and organs. Carrots also contain fiber and vitamins B6 and C. Maybe this was just a thoughtful way of making sure Meghan stays healthy during her pregnancy?

Harry and Meghans Australia tour kicked off on Tuesday 16 October and will finish on Wednesday 31 October.
