A new job advert for a pub that specifically asks for a man to do heavy lifting has been called sexist.

The ad for the position at the Slug and Lettuce, in Bristol, was slammed as soon as it went online.

Head chef Angela Borsi posted the notice for the full time job, which paid £8-an-hour, on Facebook group Jobs in Bristol and Surrounding Areas.

Wow, if this isnt the most sexist post Ive seen today, wrote one user.

Another added: Are you looking for boyfriend of chef?

But Ms Borsi defended the advert saying she specifically needed a man because there were already two women working in the kitchen.

She wrote: I dont think its nothing bad – the people are thinking bad about that, I didnt want a boyfriend.

I have two girls in the kitchen already, one is me and the other is pregnant and we need a man for the heavy lifting, when we do an oil change, it is 20 litre containers and they are heavy.

Thats the reason I put “boys first”.

Angela Borsi, chef at the Slug and Lettuce in Bristol, posted an advert reading: ?Chef job! In Slug and Lettuce Bristol Harbourside. Boys first, if possible.? The ?8-an-hour job, for 40-45 hours a week was suited to a male worker due to the amount of heavy lifting, Angela said. But when she posted it on the Facebook group ?Jobs in Bristol and Surrounding Areas? women questioned her intentions. One wrote ?Wow, if this isn?t the most sexist post I?ve seen today?, while another asked ?Are you looking for boyfriend of chef??. Slug and Lettuce said the notice did not reflect its policy and Ms Borsi was not in charge of recruitment.

A spokesman added: The post was done proactively on a personal feed in her own time and certainly does not reflect company policy.

We would like to apologise for any offence caused and reassure all applicants that our management team handles all recruitment to ensure the correct procedures are adhered to and it will be no different with this vacancy.

Under UK law, employers must not show any form of gender discrimination without a genuine occupational requirement.
