French police search health minister’s home as part of coronavirus inquiry

French authorities searched the home of Health Minister Olivier Véran Thursday as part of an inquiry into the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, the Health Ministry said.

Véran is one of several current or former ministers being investigated following complaints about the government’s handling of the pandemic. In July, a special French court ordered an investigation after 90 complaints were lodged, notably over shortages of masks and other equipment.

COVID-19 patients, doctors, prisoners and police officers accused members of the French government of endangering people’s lives, failing to assist those in danger and even of manslaughter. Nine of these complaints were sent to the prosecutor general.
