NEW DELHI: Photographs of earthern lamps, candles and flashlights flooded Twitter in response to the PMs call to switch off lights for nine minutes but several netizens questioned the rationale behind the move. Some also pointed out that many burst crackers in many parts of India.
Contrasting hashtag, both supporting and citicising the move, trended on Twitter almost in equal measure. Through the day, #HumLight-NahinBujhayenge had trended, with more than 44k tweets at its peak hour around 5pm. Towards evening, the #9Baje9Minute became the top trend with 166k tweets around 10pm.
