Police fight decision to reinstate officer who called takeaway staff P***s

A police force is not happy it was made to take back an officer who used a racial slur.

PC Katie Barratt was dismissed at a misconduct hearing last year after the panel was told she racially abused Asian employees at the Spice of Punjab takeaway, in Westmorland Road, Newcastle.

The police officer, who was off-duty on a work night out in 2017, allegedly said: I wish these f*****g P***s would hurry up with my pizza, while also calling them n*****s.

Northumbria Police is fighting the decision of an appeal tribunal which forced them to reinstate race slur cop PC Katie Barratt. PC Barratt successfully appealed the decision and was reinstated by an independent appeal tribunal last month.

Northumbria Polices Deputy Chief Constable Darren Best said today: It is important and right that the communities we serve know that Northumbria Police are fighting the decision of an independent Police Appeal Tribunal to reinstate PC Katie Barratt.

First and foremost, the language used by the officer that night was abhorrent.

I want to be absolutely clear that racist language is completely unacceptable.
