A man convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl was allowed to have his electronic tag removed so he could go on holiday with his wife to Tenerife.

John OSullivan, 67, of Clackmannanshire, Scotland was found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl, aged 14, following a trial in July last year.

The victims mum has blasted the justice system, describing how her daughter is terrified to leave the house in case she is faced with her attacker, who has been bragging down the pub.

In August 2018 OSullivan was handed a restriction of liberty order for nine months – meaning he had to stay in his home during specific times specified by court – and was monitored through an electronic ankle tag.

But last month he applied to the Alloa Sheriff Court to have his restriction lifted for 14 days, so he could fly to the Spanish island, reported the Daily Record.

The request was granted by visiting Sheriff James MacDonald and it is believed OSullivan, from the town Alva, and his wife Elizabeth, 57, returned from their trip last week.

The young victims mum, who cannot be named to protect her daughters anonymity, told the Daily Record: This should never have been allowed. It is totally wrong.

My daughter has really been affected by what happened to her.

She wont go out the house by herself. She has to walk about with her personal alarm to make her feel safer.

She is constantly on edge and she is scared she bumps in to him again.

OSullivan, from Alva, Clackmannanshire, approached the teen between June and August last year by putting his hand on her thigh and repeatedly rubbing it up and down.

He also made a sexually explicit comment to her last September, scaring the young girl.

Along with his tag, OSullivan was sentenced to complete an 18-month-community payback order and was added to the sex offenders register for five years.

The victims mum added: He was given this restriction order as a punishment.
