His home has seven bedrooms, a swimming pool, football nets in the back garden and a bowling alley.
Images captured just after midnight today saw dad Dave driving a vehicle from the prison, closely followed by a police van.
Speaking briefly at Johnsons gated mansion in Castle Eden, Dave agreed it was good to have him back.
The father was seen driving off in a blacked-out people carrier minutes later, past photographers waiting at the top of the private lane.
The former Sunderland and Manchester City winger was sentenced to six years for engaging in sexual activity with a besotted 15-year-old fan in 2016.
Following his release, he will also be restricted to seeing his daughter, Ayla, four, under the supervision of another adult.
He will also be placed under heavy supervision from officials, despite not being issued with a tag.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: Johnson will be treated like any other convicted sex offender. Hes a free man, but it comes at a heavy price.
Johnson, who was capped 12 times and scored twice for England, has been held at HMP Moorland near Doncaster after causing his victim severe psychological harm.
