Its Veganuary and finally brands are getting on board.

From the Greggs vegan sausage roll to M&S adding a range of over 60 vegan items to stores, things are changing.

But allergy sufferers are concerned that the new M&S Plant Kitchen range isnt quite dairy or egg free.

Despite not using any dairy or egg ingredients, the range is made in a factory alongside other products and there is a risk of contamination so the supermarket has recommended that they are not suitable for milk or egg allergy sufferers.

A message on the back of one packet said: For allergens see ingredients in bold. Not suitable for Nut and Peanut allergy sufferers. Prepared to a vegan recipe. Not suitable for Milk or Egg allergy sufferers because these allergens are present in the environment.

People with allergies have complained on Twitter, saying although they appreciate the stringent allergy labelling, they are disappointed that these items couldnt be made safe for them to eat.

They're a plant based product withthe ingredients/ allergies clearly listed on the the product, for our customers to view and decide if they are right for their needs.
If an item is made in a factory where allergens are handled, we won't label as suitable for these allergens.

However, vegan products may not be suitable for people with severe allergies because allergens may be present in the environment in which they are made.

This is clearly flagged on the packaging as a steer to those who need it.

M&S have been contacted by Metro.co.uk but did not respond. We will update the article accordingly.
