Murder investigation launched after body of young mum is found in her flat

Police have launched an investigation after the body of a missing woman was found in a flat.

Neighbours said the woman was a young mother who lived in the building with her partner and their baby.

Others reported hearing banging shortly before the police burst in.

Officers forced their way into the maisonette in Wyndmill Crescent in West Bromwich at around 2am on Monday morning.

West Midlands Police are treating the death as unexplained and a post-mortem is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

The door of the flat has been removed and a blue tarpaulin sheet erected while forensic teams conducted a fingertip search of the area.

A resident said they havent seen the father of the child in a few days.

He explained: If I see him, I speak to him, but I havent seen him for a couple of days.

I spoke to him outside the shops around three days ago but I havent seen him since, Ive been trying to ring him but theres no answer.

Another said: I heard banging at about 2am. It sounded like someone was banging my side window. It was really loud and woke me.

I know the couple but they are very quiet. They just keep themselves to themselves. You never really see them.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines said: The ladys death is being treated as unexplained but its hoped the post mortem will soon be able to shed some light on what happened.

It is not yet clear how long the body was there before being discovered and we are yet to make a formal identification of the woman.

Officers forced entry to the address in the early hours of this morning as part of a missing person enquiry.
