A five-year-old boy rescued from a house fire in Nottinghamshire has died in hospital, police say.

He is the third victim of the blaze after an eight-year-old girl and a woman, aged 33, died on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to a house in Woodhill Road, Collingham, at around 7am.

Firefighters rescued five people – believed to be from the same family – from the property.

The woman and girl died later that day, before the five-year-old boy died in hospital on Sunday.

A 34-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital.

A 53-year-old woman was lead to safety by fire crews and treated at the scene.

Chief Inspector Rich Stapleford said: "Collingham is a very close-knit community and this includes some of the fire crews who responded.

"I know this news will hit the village very hard indeed.

More from Nottinghamshire

"I speak on behalf of all the emergency services who were in attendance when I say our thoughts are with the victims, their families, friends and the community of Collingham at this difficult time."

A joint fire and police investigation is taking place to establish a cause.
