Enormous chunk of cliff collapses onto a beach below

This astonishing footage shows the moment an enormous section of cliff collapses on to a beach below.

The video was filmed by a walker who said she just legged it after the rock crashed.

Deborah Smith had been out watching the sunset at Lyntone Cliffs near Bude, Cornwall, at 4pm on Monday.

She said she noticed small bits of earth falling from the cliff edge and got out her phone to film.

Deborah, 54, can be heard gasping just before the huge amount of land plunges to the sand below.

She said: Ive never walked that particular area before and I was just wandering along taking pictures of the sunset, like you do.

I saw some little chunks of the cliff fall off and roll down so I started to video it.

Then the massive bit just collapsed, it was so scary – I legged it away.

It made a hell of a noise too – very loud.

Deborah said she looked around to see if anyone else was around who might have witnessed it too.

I did stop a jogger to tell her that part of the cliff had collapsed but she just waved at me and I dont think she knew what I was saying.

I definitely didnt expect to see something like that happen.

The manager of the nearby Elements Hotel and Restaurant said he was not aware of the collapse but was not that surprised by it.

He said: Its not far away from us at all, just down the road.

That area is prone to this sort of thing and with the wet and windy weather weve been having I cant say Im surprised.

A similar thing happened about three or four years ago when bits of the cliff collapsed during a really bad spell of weather.

A spokesman for Falmouth Coastguard confirmed that the area where it happened is covered by them.

They added they had no reports of any incidents there.
