A desperate mum-of-five has decided to home school her youngest children because she cant afford the school bus.

Samantha Househam, of Wainfleet, Lincolnshire, forks out almost £200 a month on bus trips to pick up her kids from The Magdalen Church of England / Methodist Primary School.

The 38-year-old, who cant drive, is now preparing to teach the youngsters herself after failing to find alternative ways of getting them home.

It costs her £2.70 to make her way to the primary school every afternoon and an additional £7 to return home with the three children.

Because I am having to pay out all this money each week to get my children home from school, it means that we cannot afford oil for heating, Ms Househam said.

So we are only able to put heating on when it gets really cold. All other times we dress warmly and cuddle under duvets.

Her two eldest sons attend a different school, where they are dropped off by her partner in the morning and later walk home by themselves.

Mrs Househam has now handed the school a letter explaining why she is taking out John-Henry, nine, Skye, seven, and Brianna, six.

She thinks that the move could also be good for the children as they will no longer be forced to stick to a curriculum and will be liberated from their desks.

Im excited and scared but as I have found out, there is loads of advice and groups and support, she said.

I talked to my kids yesterday and they seem quite excited about it also.

She added: It is totally different to a school environment and you dont have to stick to the curriculum, which I thought you had to.

You are not tied to a desk like they are in school you can go out and about and learn things that way.
